Rumbo a Quetico: Día -2 // Day -2 in the way to Quetico

The expedition officially begins today. We are going to travel comfortably in the Corolla with all the gears but the canoes until the city of Sault Ste. Marie, between the Lakes Huron and Superior, in the banks of a small river, called Saint Marys that unites both lakes.
Its name derives from the French. Apparently it comes from waterfalls in the river Saint Marys (‘sauts Sainte Marie’) that interrupted navigation from one lake to another, until the construction of the first canal in 1855. The settlement as such was founded by French Jesuits in 1668. After the war of 1812 the city was divided in two, one American part south of the river, and the other Canadian in the north, which gave way to two contiguous cities that share the same name.
