Tortuga Mordedora // Snapping Turtle

Según la Wikipedia la tortuga mordedora se caracteriza por una actitud combativa cuando está fuera del agua, con una mordida destructora, y un cuello extremadamente flexible y rápido que asemeja al de las culebras. Hay una especie de estas tortugas conocidas como tortugas lagartos que son de aspecto aún más temibles, con caparazón pulludo y pinchos en la cola.

La que vimos en el parque fue por suerte una mordedora común, que estando dentro del agua se comportan más bien elusivas. Aunque el ejemplar que vimos parecía bastante curioso y lejos de evadirnos, se acercaba a vernos. Dos o tres veces se me acercó cuando tenía los pies descalzos en el agua (para ese entonces no sabía que era una tortuga mordedora) pero se alejaba si yo me movía. Tengo la impresión por el video, que perdió parte de la cola. 





According to Wikipedia, the snapping turtle is noted by a combative disposition when out of the water, with a powerful bite, and an extremely flexible and fast neck that resembles a snake. There is a species of this turtle known as alligator snapping turtle that is even more creepy, with spikes in the carapace and also in the tail.

Luckily, the one we saw in the park was a common snapping turtle, which being in the water behaves rather elusive. Although the specimen we saw seemed quite curious. Far from eluding us, it came closer to watch us. Two or three times it came closer to me when I was barefoot in the water (I didn't know it was a snapping turtle by then) but it would walk away if I moved. I have the impression from the video, that it lost part of the tail.

Excursión al Cotopaxi 2025

Click here to see the version in English Alcanzamos una nueva cumbre y cerramos con esto un desafío que teníamos pendiente desde hace varios años, sino todos, al menos yo. Subir al Cotopaxi es (o fue) un reto duro y el hecho que los cuatro lo hallamos logrado demuestra algo: bien sea que estábamos bien preparados y entrenados, o que tenemos una determinación inquebrantable, o que tuvimos buen tino en la escogencia del equipo de apoyo, o que somos sumamente sortarios… o quizás un poco de todo lo anterior combinado y revuelto. Lo cierto es que las condiciones se dieron y alcanzamos la cumbre y lo que viene en estos escritos que siguen es la celebración del éxito, el resumen y las fotos que captan la dulzura del logro alcanzado, pero que poco hablan del esfuerzo, la planificación, el entrenamiento que nos tomaron para alcanzarlo.
