Climbing Pasochoa Volcano (13,822 ft)

On Monday, April 28, at 9:00 am, we began our hike to Pasochoa Volcano, from a point located half an hour north (by car) from the Hacienda Santa Rita. The path mostly runs along a dirt road, surrounded by intense greenery, with trees framing both sides of the way, but not covering the blue of the sky, as they do in the canyon leading to the Condor Machay waterfall. The trek to Pasochoa was an enjoyable, pleasant hike, mostly easy to walk, except for the last section of the trail leading to the summit, where it becomes narrow, steep, and slippery due to the mud, largely because of the rain that fell on us just after we left the tree line.

Rodrigo and Marcela reached the summit at 12:39 PM. Federica, Pablo, and I arrived at 1:10 PM. At 1:20 PM, Rodrigo confessed that he had a headache (a symptom of altitude sickness), so we began the descent.

We arrived at the car 15 minutes after 4 pm. We covered the route in 7 hours and 15 minutes. According to the statistics that Pablo manages, the average time for this trail is 6 hours, meaning we were slower than the average group. Our shoes and socks were completely soaked.
