Aquí va
nuestro plan de ascenso: Nos montamos en un jeep con los guías y nos vamos
hasta un sitio a 5 horas de Moshi para comenzar el ascenso (mapa: RutaLemosho). Al llegar nos bajamos del rústico y pata parejo hasta donde estén
las carpas. El que llega de último no come y lava los platos.
Escogimos
la ruta Lemosho por ser la más larga, lo cual nos da mejores oportunidades para
adaptarnos a la altura. Es decir, estamos dispuestos a caminar más a cambio de
mayores probabilidades de hacer cumbre. Estaremos subiendo unos 6 días y medio
y bajaremos por una ruta diferente en día y medio. ¡Rodillas por medio!

Our plan is quite simple: jump to the car with the guides to a place 5 hours away from Moshi. Then walk the distance to the tents where the food is served. As the song says, the winner takes all, meaning that the last one won´t get food, and will clean dishes… Lemosho Route
Climbing Plan (the
theory… Let see how it goes!)
12 Aug. 5 hour drive to the Londorossi Park Gate. From
there, trek to the camp site. overnight MTI MKUBWA CAMP.
13 Aug. After breaking camp, hike up towards Shira
Camp 1. located near a stream.
14 Aug. Relatively
easy day across the plateau that leads to Shira Camp 2.
15 Aug. After breakfast, enter into a moonscape of
semi-alpine desert, while you hike constantly upwards toward Lava Tower. At
around 4,200m, you may start to feel the effects of altitude with shortness of
breath and irritability, assuming it had not taken effect earlier on the
climb. After Lava Tower, your route will
head down by almost 680m to the Baranco camp.
16 Aug. Extra day for acclimatization. Overnight at
KARANGA VALLEY (3,950m).
17 Aug. Climbs up steeply out of the Barranco Valley,
crosses the turning North to reach BARAFU CAMP (15,500ft./4,600m.). Camp
overnight.
18 Aug. An early start to reach the crater rim at
Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then continue to Uhuru Peak
(19,340ft./5,896m). The highest Point in Africa. Afterwards descend to Barafu
and on down to MWEKA CAMP (10,300ft/3,100m). Camp overnight.
19 Aug. Descending down to Mweka Park Gate.
